"Um, no - it's H - R - Y - N - K - I - W.
No, not K - I - U - U, K - I - *W*.
Yes, that's right.
Yes, I know it looks like "HOCKYRINK."
Yup, only 2 vowels.
Pronounciation? _SMITH_."
-- my brother's e-mail sig line.
Is your name HRYNKIW*? I'd like to hear from you -- perhaps we're distant cousins.

Who were your grandparents? When the old folks gather and start telling stories, where do they say your family came from? I've collected reports of present-day Ukraine, Poland, Austria, and Slovakia. If you're not in Ukraine, when did your people emmigrate?
How do you pronounce our surname? My own family uses either "her-IN-kew" or "her-INK-you".
In North America, the HRYNKIW surname appears more often in Canada than the US, and mostly in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario. In the US, HRYNKIW shows up primarily in Michigan, New York, and Pennsylvania. My family is from British Columbia, with Saskatchewan in our roots; I also have siblings now living in Quebec and Alberta.
Drop me a note. Or send my address to someone in your family who is interested in family history or genealogy. I'd love to hear from you.
